Do I need solar panels to use Kora?
Nope! Kora works great with or without solar. You can start by storing energy from the grid when it's cheap and using it when rates are high. If you decide to add solar later, Kora is ready for it. It will automatically store your excess energy, power your home, and even sell energy back to the grid when prices spike.
Do I need the Smart Panel if I only want Powerblocks?
Yes, the Smart Panel is required. Kora is designed as a fully integrated system. The Smart Panel monitors your home, controls your circuits, and manages how energy flows between the grid, your batteries, and your home. It also tells the batteries when to charge and discharge based on your usage, energy prices, and system priorities. Without it, the system can't intelligently manage your energy or deliver features like backup prioritization, automation, and energy savings. That's what makes Kora so much more than just a battery!
What's included in Powerblocks?
Powerblocks combine 2 to 7 modular LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, each storing 4 kWh, with a hybrid inverter. You can start small and add more batteries over time. The maximum system size is four Powerblocks units, which gives you up to 112 kWh of total storage.
How much power can Powerblocks provide?
Each Powerblocks unit delivers up to 11.4 kW of continuous power. If you have four units, that adds up to 45.6 kW total.
Does Powerblocks need cooling or ventilation?
No! Powerblocks use natural convection cooling with cold-weather heating built right in. They operate safely anywhere from -13°F to 131°F, so no fans or extra ventilation are needed.
Can I use Powerblocks off-grid?
Yes! With the right configuration and enough solar, Kora can run a home completely off-grid. The system switches from grid to battery power in under 20 milliseconds, so you won't even notice the transition.
What is the warranty?
Powerblocks come with a 10-year limited warranty that covers at least 6,000 cycles. When you reserve a Founders Edition system, that warranty extends to 12 years across all major components.
What are the dimensions?
The inverter measures 27.2" x 18.9" x 8.4". Each battery module measures 22.4" x 15.0" x 6.5". The modules stack vertically beneath the inverter, so the total height depends on how many batteries you choose.
How do I know how many Powerblocks I need?
Each battery module stores 4 kWh of energy, so more batteries means longer runtime and more backup coverage. Most homeowners size their system based on their daily energy usage, which circuits they want backed up, and how long they'd like power to last during an outage. The great thing about Powerblocks is that you don't have to get it perfect on day one since they're modular and easy to expand later.
